Homegoing service for Mr. Washington Charles Crews, "DC" of Tampa who passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 2:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Rev. H.L. Daniels, eulogist with Rev. Rochester Jacobs, Sr., officiating. Washington was born October 28, 1936 in Clayton, Alabama to the late Jimmie Lee Crews and Versie Lee of Crews. Washington attended Freemont School in Bakerville, Alabama. He worked for many years in the agriculture field. In 1952 he moved to Plant City and later moved to Miami, Florida, where he worked in construction. He later relocated to Tampa, Florida. He loved fishing and loved telling jokes and stories. Washington was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Lee Crews, Sr., daughters, LaVi and Keara Crews; and cousins, Robin and Tina Crews. He leaves to cherish his devoted and loving 103 year old mother, Versie Lee Crews; grandchild, Taylor Thompson of Palatka, Florida; brothers, John Crews (Jennie), Jimmy Lee Crews, Jr. (Dorothy), Eddie James Crews, Arthur Crews, all of Tampa and James Benjamin Crews (Janice) of Plant City, Florida; aunt, Mary Lee Diggs Baker of Tampa; cousin, Mary Alice Diggs of Tampa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and family members and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 23rd, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
