Obituary

Wilbert was born on February 16, 1953, to William Long and Juanita Norwood. After fulfilling basic academics, Wilbert attended Hillsborough Community College with a desire to one day pursue law. Wilbert, being a stern man of determination and community activism, volunteered whenever and wherever any need presented itself to him. He was an advocate for various community endeavors. His work ethic was impeccable. He was an avid game player, amateur chef, and gardener.

Brother Wilbert was the treasurer of MERCI Church Ministries mission board. He also volunteered his time, finances, and services to MERCI Outreach Ministries. Brother Wilbert passionately volunteered his services on the pastors auxiliary board as well. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. His leadership and generous willingness to always be of service blessed all those he touched. His presence will be sorely missed because he was dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Long; mother, Juanita Norwood; son, Wilbert Long, Jr.; and mother-in-law, Maralyn Johnson.

He leaves precious memories with his wife, Sonja Long; children, Amanda Long, and Ashley Long; stepchildren, Gerrica Randall (John), Rande Williams, Sr., (Melissa) and Faith Richardson (Dwain); grandchildren, Darian Walters, Jr., Sa'Niya Long-Brown, Sasha Walters, and Miracle Kellum; stepgrandchildren, Rande Starks, Jr., Aaliyah Mann, Sean Randall, Jodi Williams, Aeryn Richardson, Johnisha Randall, Michaela Randall, John Randall III, Jozmel Hilario, Amani Duran and Joanni Hilario; brothers, Willie Long (Debra), Danny Long; brothers-in-law, Ronald Starks and Cedric Trussell (Danielle); sisters, Iris Cowles, Barbara Passmore (Michael), and Lois Long Williams (Donald); sisters-in-law, Joyce Davis (Freddy), Charlyn Kathy Bowers (Clarence), Karol Jones, and Rhonda Woodruff (Oscar); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; Maggie Moore ("Grandma); and a host of sorrowing relatives, godchildren, and many special friends.
