Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Willetha Mays "Blood" of 2507 E. 38th Ave., who passed away, Wednesday, May 26, 2010, will be held Saturday, May 29th, 10:00 a.m., God's Hands Ministry, 2918 E. 27th Avenue, Bishop Clayton Ferguson, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Willetha was born November 19, 1931 in Tampa, Florida to the parentage of Lucinda Powell Grantley and John Henry Avery. Willetha attended the schools of Gadsden County and had been employed with Tampa General Hospital. She met her husband, Julius Mays and they were married until his demise in 1992. Willetha was known as a fun loving woman who had a gorgeous and contagious smile. She loved to cook for her family and friends, especially after a day of fishing (her favorite past-time). Her love for music and life is how she will be remembered by family and friends. Willetha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Shirley Turner and brothers, James Avery and Horace Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory, loving and devoted granddaughters Ericka Hightower (John) and Zandra Turner; sister, Rose Artis of New York; sister-in-law, Ammie Will Jones; great grandchildren, Darius Turner, Alicia Turner and Equaisha Brooks; great great grandchild, Ava Turner; nieces, Joyce Mitchell, Cynthia Wyatt and Veatrice Renee Brown; nephews, Lenoris Avery, Kelvin Artis and John Artis of New York and Patrick Lee Jones (Rosalind); and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service Saturday.
