A memorial service for Mr. William Michael McFarland, Sr. of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 will be held on Saturday, January 21st, 2:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Pastor Christine Hymes, officiating. The interment will follow. Michael McFarland was born on October 20, 1944 in Orlando, Florida to the late James Smith and Minnie Siplin McFarland. He honorably served in the United States Army and the Army Reserve as a military police officer for many years. He was also an avid entertainer, he enjoyed singing, dancing and mentoring children. He was the creator and founder of the Tampa Cadets, a program designed to help inner city troubled youth. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Smith and Minnie Siplin (Handsome); brothers, Floyd, Carl, Tommy, Sylvester and Curtis 'Mr. Mack' McFarland; sisters, Ida Smith and Shirley Peterson. He leaves to cherish his loving memories with his children, Michael McFarland , Jr. and Carthenia Turk; grandchildren, Nakayla McFarland , Laila Garcia, Zenani Washington, Carlisssa Turk, Najee Russell and Nyla Coy; great grandson, Zayden Ballet; sisters, Glenda Thomas (Hezikiah), Tampa, Florida and Barbara McAllister, Rochester, New York; brother, James 'Handsome' McFarland, Titusville, Florida; sister-in-law, Ella McFarland, Tampa, Florida ; uncle, Dan Siplin, Orlando, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors; nieces, Aisha (Ricky), Dyer, CA and Julissa Ortiz (Andre), Tampa, Florida and longtime friend, Gwendolyn Russell, Ocala, Florida. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
