Willie Mae was born on May 4, 1947 in Tampa, Florida to Willie and Gladys Chapper. She graduated from Middleton High School and attended St. Petersburg Junior College. She worked for Hillsborough Countys school board. Her favorite hobbies included watching television and playing cards and other games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Willie Chapper; brothers, John Chapper and Gene Backey; and nieces Treneice and Regina.

She leaves precious memories with her children, Ricky Chapper and Wanda Edwards; grandchildren, Arnelle Edwards, Jaylen Tillman, and Rchale Chapper; brothers, Nelson Chapper (Patricia) and Norman Chapper (Gwen); nieces, Sabrina Knolles (Bobby), Cindy Hilton (Chris), Shirika (Kim D.), Lakeisha, Marshal, and Shan; nephews, Gene Simmons, Jr., and Darell Chapper (Beranda) Nelson, Jr. (Christina), and Mann; cousins, Willie Range (Gloria), Horace, April, and "Punkie", and special friends Sandra Wilkes, Elizabeth Fennel, Irene Fennel, and Eddie Reid; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
