Obituary

A celebration of life service for Mr. Willie `RED' Davenport of Tampa, who passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013, will be held Saturday, March 9th, 1:00 p.m, at Northside Missionary Baptist Church, 5706 N. 40th Street, Rev. Ricardo Robinson, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Willie `RED' Davenport was born on November 8, 1929 in Pelham, Georgia to the late Henry Davenport and Mary Davenport. He was the third of eight children. Willie was employed with the University of South Florida for 50 years. He retired as Assistant Superintendent of the Custodial Department on January 30, 1992 after 30 years of service. He continued to work at the U.S.F. Credit Union, until January 25, 2012 after 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by parents, Henry Davenport and Mary Davenport; brothers, James Davenport, Elijah Davenport, John Henry Davenport; sister, Lillian Miller and loving companion, Yvonne Jones. He leaves to cherish fond memories; daughters, Vera Davenport and Tracie Davenport-Jennings (Chuck), all of Tampa; grandchildren, Ciara Davenport, Emmit Bunkley, Jr., and Michael Bivens, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Willie Henry Davenport and Emmiyah Tre'moni Regene Bunkley, all of Tampa, Florida; raised as a son, Edgar Jones, Jr., (Barbara); sisters; Mary Johnson and Jessie McClain both of Detroit, Michigan; brother, Andrew Davenport (Christine) of Pelham, Georgia; mother of his children, Eva Davenport.; special loving friend, Essie Curtis of Albion, Michigan; sisters-in-law; Ann Davenport of Freeport, New York, Eula Mae Davenport, Pelham, Georgia and Louise Jones, Tampa, Florida; goddaughters; Marilyn Streeter, Jacqueline Coffie-Leeks, Retha Hobbs and Earline Hobdey; he also leaves behind the Jones family; family friends, Mattie Lampkins and Earl McCullough; the staff of the USF Credit Union; and a host of other sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
