A homegoing celebration for Mr. Willie James Minor of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Peace Progressive M.B. Church, 2607 E. 24th Avenue, Pastor Sylvester Robinson, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Willie James Minor was born to the union of the late James and Thelma Minor in Greenville, Florida. The family relocated to Tampa when he was still a small child. Willie received his education in Hillsborough County Schools and later earned an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. Willie voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1950 where he served an honorable and distinguish twenty-one years, highlighted by two tours in Vietnam. Gunnery Sergeant Minor retired as a decorated soldier. After retiring from the military, he went back to work as a civil servant, security police at the Veteran Administration Hospital for twenty-two years. Willie accepted Christ at an early age and was a long time member of Peace Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. He was an active member of the usher board and various other committees. Willie was united in holy matrimony to Eva Mae Williams (Sweetie) on June 19, 1959 in Tampa, Florida. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Minor; siblings, Annie Mae, George, Malachi, Iva, Rosa Lee Minor Monroe and Joe Minor and brother-in-law, Matthew Harris, Sr. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories with his wife, Eva Mae Minor; three sisters, Dorothy Minor Goins (Charles), Thelma Minor Billings (Eddie), Fort Worth Texas and Catherine Minor Harvey (Lee), Riverview, Florida; 1 brother-in-law, George Monroe, Williston, Florida; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillie Tombs Minor, Loretta Gilbert; 1 uncle, Willie D. Rayford of Williston, Florida; 1 aunt, Catherine Brown, Williston, Florida; a very special close cousin, Lizzie Mae Varnedoe, Midway, GA; 41 nieces and nephews; 105 great nieces and nephews; 48 great great nieces and nephews; and a host of sorrowing devoted cousins; other relatives and friends including Tom and Susanne Goldtraps; special and devoted neighbor of many years, Lawrence and Sharon Jackson, Rueben and Juanita Yeoman, Wayne Allen and wife Johnny and Essie Reese. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 12th from 5 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
