A homegoing service for Mr. Willie A. Outland of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017, will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Rev. Reginal T. Webb, pastor of Bethel Progressive Baptist Church, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Willie was born February 21, 1955 in Newbern, Alabama to Walter A. Outland, Sr. and the late Mary L. Outland. He graduated from Fenger High School, Chicago, Illinois. He attended Illinois State University on a baseball scholarship and graduated from Greenville College, Chicago, Illinois. He was a professional baseball player for the Cincinnati Reds until he was injured. Willie was employed with the Chicago City Parks District and Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department for many years. He had a great love for the game of golf and was a local golf instructor for the First Tee program, YMCA. He loved children and enjoyed teaching them the game of golf. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; initiated Epsilon Chi Chapter, 1975 at Illinois State University. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Outland; uncles, Richard and Johnnie Outland and aunts, Mary Davis and Claudia Outland. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, a loving wife, LaSandra D. Outland; father, Walter A. Outland, Sr.; children, Ashley Outland, Chad A. Outland (Cherelle), Siara D. Outland, Roosevelt E. Bryant, Jr. (Jasmin), Donte J. Bryant (Canesia), Laterrius D. Bryant, Richard Blocker, Fatimah Bromell and Michael Hood; grandchildren, Alvia J. Bryant, Chase E. Outland, Symphony K., Michah M., Keyonni, Caleb, and Mayala Bryant (due 1/9/18); brothers, Walter A. Outland, Jr. (Ann) and Michael Outland; sisters, Gwendolyn Turner (Reginald), Linda Belts (John), Michelle Walker (William) and Carolyn Perkin; aunts, Janie Thigpen, Ann Walker and Louise Dumas (Andrew); uncle, Felix Outland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends who will miss him. The visitation will be held on Friday, January 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. The Phi Beta Sigma (members only) fraternal ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
