Willie was born on June 20, 1951, to the late Annie Claude Burden in Byromville, GA. After graduating from Middleton High School in 1969, he was briefly employed by The Coca-Cola Company, but was drafted into the United States Army. There, he served four years before becoming a railroad inspector at CSX Transportation.

In his later years, Willies favorite pastime was spent appreciating nature by collecting and fostering plants. He was greatly known in the neighborhood as "the Plant Dude". You would often find him at home affectionally caring for his vegetation or his pets.

Willie was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Claude Burden and brother, Robert Lee Singleton.

He is survived by his loving son, Willie Lee Singleton, Jr.; grandchildren, Carol and Cameron Singleton; sisters, Pamela Owens (Mark) of Tampa, FL., and Sylean West (Marvin) of Jacksonville, FL.; sister-in-law, Mary Singleton of Largo, FL.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and devoted friend, Sandra Wilkes of Tampa, FL.
