Obituary

On May 11, 1944, in the mountainous terrain of southern Haiti, Wilner Delismé (aka Nènè or Ti Lenord) was born to Lenord and Florinise Delismé in Mirago"ne. He lived a life fueled by his faith, his love for his family and friends, and his passion for education and horticulture. He grew up with a large family. His sisters were Denise, Remonde, and Orina. His brothers were Kesnore, Ednore, and Frank. In this small country town, his father taught him at an early age how to farm. Little did he know that the principles learned would serve him throughout his lifetime. When he became old enough, he told his father he wanted to go to school. He walked miles every day to learn something new, not just for himself but to take back to his home and village.

Determined to be a light for his family and friends, Wilner started teaching young kids in Mirago"ne who didn't have the educational opportunities afforded to them. He took his farming duties very seriously as he recognized that's what paid for his schooling.

Advancing in his studies, Wilner moved from the hilly countryside to the hustle and bustle of city life in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to become an accountant. There he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Charles. He married Elizabeth on March 19, 1977. Out of this union bloomed 5 wonderful children: Gaby, Ericka, Shanny, Janet, and Julisa, and 2 amazing grandchildren: Jordan and Catalina. He was a loving father and kept a watchful eye on his family. He knew the balance of instilling discipline and showing tenderness. He walked his children to the bus stops even through high school and would do pop-up visits at Florida State University to make sure his kids were okay.

For decades, Wilner passionately poured and sacrificially invested into his family and community. After years of practicing as an accountant, Wilner chose to leave the familiarity of a good life in Haiti in hopes of building a life in America that would allow his children to soar to even greater heights. He then came to the United States in 1984 and worked at Alamo Rent A Car for 24 years, where he retired. Alamo was more than a workplace; it became a part of his ministry and an opportunity to serve others.

Keeping his faith and family in the forefront of his life, Wilner attended No Greater Love Baptist Church. As a believer in Jesus Christ, he was always praying. He would actively participate in the Power Ministries' prayer line. On a daily basis, he would uplift his family, friends, and community. He was very passionate about education and he put dozens of people through school in addition to his biological children. As challenges arose, he would constantly encourage himself and those he encountered to never give up and put their trust in the only living God. He never met a stranger and would find his way to ask anyone he came in contact with, "Do you go to church and follow Jesus?" One of Wilner's most repeated phrases was "avec Jesus tout va bien." He would give Jordan and Catalina verses to remember that fed them spiritually and added to their war tools. Wilner was very encouraging and he would make sure his children and grandchildren knew the Lord. He would always say, "I have my Lord with me and I'm in His hands."

Wilner was a great storyteller and loved cracking jokes. He was very social and loved talking about Haiti. Wilner enjoyed planting in his garden and was blessed with a green thumb that allowed him to grow mangos, avocados, sugar cane, yuca, lemons, aloe, grapefruit, almonds, oranges, tangerines, papayas, pineapples, passion fruit, and cacti, just to name a few. In addition to that, he was knowledgeable in herbal medicines and grew plants that rendered teas to aid with multiple ailments. He believed in sharing and blessing others and grew fruit-bearing trees for family and friends. He would tell his wife and kids that they could "live off the land for 30 days," and he meant it.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Wilner leaves a legacy of the importance of having a relationship with the Lord, a sense of community responsibility, mentorship, friendship and love.
