Yvonne Gadson was born December 20, 1950, in Newton, Georgia to parents, John L. Gadson and Avella Miller Gadson. Yvonne graduated from George S. Middleton High School, class of 1968. After graduating from high school, she attended the Job Corp and later worked for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Newspaper). Afterwards, she relocated to Los Angeles, California where she met and later married Sgt. Oscar Lee Douglas, Sr. (June 21, 1975). To their union two children were born, Kenya Juanita Douglas and Jerrod Gadson Douglas. While living in Los Angeles, she was a faithful member of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Fred Autry. She was active in
Sunday school, the mission, and she was the president of the Youth Usher Board as well as a Deaconess. Outside of church, she was a Girl Scout/Brownie Troop Leader, where singer "Brandy" was a member of the troop. She took the girls on many exciting excursions throughout Los Angeles County, in addition to their troop-related duties. Yvonne was deeply rooted in her work and spent 17 years working at Lawry's California Center. Her expertise was in accounting receivables and payables. She and her family later transitioned to Tallahassee, Florida where she worked at Advanced Business Systems and Ajax Construction Company. While living in Tallahassee she was a member of the New Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kimball Thomas. She was active in Sunday School, the mission, and was a Deaconess. After moving to Tampa, Florida, she worked for the following companies: PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Cemex, and Chloe Coney Urban Enterprise Center. Prior to her passing, she worked for 8 years as the accountant and office manager for The Hargrett, LLC.
Until her passing, Yvonne upheld her role as a mother, wife, grandmother, sister, friend, and community advocate with great dignity and strength! She was truly a pillar and anchor within the Tampa Community. She was a proud member of the Middleton High School Alumni Association (Go Tigers!) and the Woodland Terrace Neighborhood Watch. She was a dedicated member of the New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa, Florida, where she served as a Deaconess, Senior Women and Mission member, and the Clym's Clothes Closet Coordinator. In addition, she served on the usher board for several years. Some of Yvonne's favorite pastimes included traveling with her husband and sisters, family gatherings, and celebrating her children, grandchildren, and family milestones and accomplishments. Yvonne was very devoted to her husband of 49-1/2 years, and she took excellent care of him until the day of her untimely demise. Throughout her life, Yvonne was known for her unwavering dedication to serving others. She generously volunteered her time and effort to a variety of causes, making a significant impact on the community. She was deeply involved with Clym's Clothes Closet, the Woodland Terrace Neighborhood Watch, and the Middleton Alumni Association. As many already know, Yvonne's true passion was Clym's Clothes Closet. She spent numerous hours volunteering there, both during the week and on the weekends. Yvonne's commitment to these causes touched the lives of countless individuals, and her legacy of kindness and selflessness will never be forgotten.
Yvonne is reunited in heaven with: parents, John L. and Avella Gadson; brothers, Ivory Gadson Sr., and Bobby Gadson; and sister, Henrietta Gadson Walton.
