Obituary

Mother Catalina (Kathleen) M. Ransom was born on November 26, 1941, in Tampa, FL to the union of Dan and Charlie Mae Mathis, Sr. She was the eldest of six siblings. At an early age she accepted Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her family, who affectionately called her "Auntie Peetie Weetie". She was the matriarch, spiritual warrior, and the peacemaker. Her faith in God was unmatched and the unconditional love she had for her family was top tier. She never met a stranger. She attended public schools in Hillsborough County and graduated from George S. Middleton Sr. High School, class of 1960. Mother Ransom was a humble and faithful servant of Center for Manifestation for over 23 years. She was the leader of the Bereavement Ministry, leader of the Senior Care Ministry who ministered to assisted living facilities and nursing homes and was an active member of the Seasoned Seniors Ministry, where she held the office of financial keeper. She rode the van to service and had an affectionate relationship with the Transportation Ministry members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Charlie Mae Mathis, Sr.; husband, Thomas Ransom, Jr.; son, Reginald Gaines; and siblings, Olivian Mathis and Dan Mathis, Jr.

She leaves cherished and fond memories with her son, Stephen Carswell, Sr. (Kimble Irons); grandchildren, Stephen Carswell, Jr., Ta Hira Harper, Sterling Carswell, Kareem Mormon, Derrick Mormon, Leroy McCray, Travis McCray, Jeremy McCray, and Karmika McCray; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Gaines (Dave), Lyndia Mathis-Hills (Audley, Sr.), Lawrence Mathis, Sr. (Charlotte) and Gloria Alexander (Mark); sister-in-law, Salithia Mathis; uncle, David Best; nieces, Wanda Mathis, Annissia Gaines, LaVay Gaines, Kimberly Gaines, Yolanda Turner, Ulkessia Forney (Corey) Tolana Mathis, Dacia Mathis, Yasia Everett, Destiney Greene (Nikolas), Veronica Kellum, Katrenia Trigg (Eric), Debra Nathan Alston, LeTecia Nathan and Lashaye Wingate; nephews, Greg Gaines, Sr., Dan Mathis III (Sharon), Derrick Mathis, Kennardo Mathis (Arlene), Lawrence Mathis, Jr., Justin Mathis, Ulysses Ponder, Jr., and James Street; like a daughter, Betty McCray; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
